The Investment Company Institute's Mutual Funds: Communications with the Public is a two-part course designed to help you to understand the rules and regulations governing a mutual fund’s communications with the public. The course is designed for employees of mutual fund organizations, banks, broker/dealers, service providers to the fund industry, and others who want to gain an understanding of mutual fund communications and advertising regulations.

OBJECTIVE

Upon completion of Part II of Mutual Funds: Communications with the Public, you will be able to:

  1. Discuss how mutual funds may use rankings and ratings in sales materials
  2. Explain the advertising rules that apply to mutual fund newsletters and independently prepared reprints
  3. Discuss the rules governing public appearances by registered employees
  4. Explain the advertising rules governing the sale of mutual funds through financial institutions
  5. Define dealer information only, institutional sales material, and institutional investor
  6. Comply with the advertising rules regulating performance graphs, investment analysis tools, automated telephone systems, privacy notices, foreign language communications, and imprinted novelty items
  7. Explain the requirements mutual funds must meet in order to electronically deliver disclosure documents to investors
  8. Explain how mutual fund names are regulated
