The Investment Company Institute's IRA Fundamentals for Financial Industry Professionals provides a detailed overview of the fundamentals of Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs). When you complete this course, you should be well prepared to answer investors' questions about: Traditional IRAs, Roth IRAs, Simplified Employee Pension (SEP) IRAs, and Savings Incentive Match Plans for Employees (SIMPLE) IRAs. The course is designed for employees of mutual fund organizations, banks, broker/dealers, service providers to the fund industry, and others who want to learn about the general characteristics of IRAs.

OBJECTIVE

  4. Describe how IRAs are established and funded.
  5. Explain the tax treatment of contributions to, and distributions from, IRAs.
  6. Define and discuss IRA recharacterizations and conversions.
  7. Explain how an owner can move IRA assets.
  8. Identify and differentiate the roles and responsibilities involved in organizing and operating IRAs.
  9. Identify and differentiate the major tax forms used to report information about IRAs to the IRS.
